Who am I kidding? Was there ever any privacy before? Perhaps it is so ingrained in us to share every detail due to years of it being pried from us.
Yes, prior to computers, cell phones and even land lines there were families and town busy bodies - we know the type - people who thought it was their business to know every one's business.
Somehow, based on relation of blood or proximity, many felt it was their privilege, even their right to know how we were feeling, how we were doing academically, how we were holding up financially...basically everything about us - and why? So that they could figure out where they stood and how they could "help" us--(translation: where they might get a foothold in order to feel superior or to gain a foothold in order to boost themselves into a position to be superior)--that they might feel better about themselves.
And how do I know this?
Well, (1) I am a human being; (2) I have observed this for...well, many years. (i.e. all my life and none of your business how many years.); (3) I have been subjected to this; (4) I have, ashamedly, been an all too willing, obedient and stellar student at this: and (5) I am daily a repentant and sorrowful transgressor of this.
With God’s help may I be a more loving person towards you.
